Cooperation with SIV.AG in the field of artificial intelligence

SIV.AG, IT service provider from Roggentin near Rostock, and the University of Rostock have agreed to cooperate in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Within the scope of the cooperation, which is scheduled to last several years, various topics of AI are to be investigated with the help of different scientific instruments in order to gain valuable insights for the energy industry and to integrate these into the (further) development of products. A corresponding framework agreement has now been signed by Dr. Jan Tamm, Chancellor of the University of Rostock, as well as Professor Kurt Sandkuhl, Institute for Computer Science, and Dr. Guido Moritz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SIV.AG.

The SIV.AG and the University of Rostock have already cooperated successfully several times in the past. The now agreed cooperation on the topic AI for the energy industry continues this tradition. In the long term, the entire spectrum of applications of artificial intelligence for this sector is to be investigated - from rule-based systems to machine learning. SIV.AG is at the disposal of the University of Rostock as knowledge carrier and industry expert. Among other things, the partners focus on innovative student projects, doctoral theses and joint projects - also to investigate how the integration of AI affects the ERP suite kVASy®. More than 300 customers of the IT service provider will benefit in the long term from the findings, which will be used in the various product areas.

Student project makes the start

The project starts with a six-month project in which students develop possible applications of AI algorithms in the energy industry on the basis of concrete scenarios. The aim is to create an artificial intelligence that will contribute to increasing the automation rate in market communication. The AI s rehall produce decision paths of employees and in the future to execute them automatically in the software. The SIV.AG provides valuable test data for this purpose.
"During our discussions in the run-up to the project, we have seen what numerous application possibilities there are for artificial intelligence in the energy industry. These must now be researched and then implemented in concrete terms," explains Professor Kurt Sandkuhl from the University of Rostock. "Our students of the Business Informatics course receive valuable practical insights and unique industry knowledge through the cooperation with the SIV.AG. Particularly motivating for all participants is, of course, the prospect that the findings and developments will be implemented at the end of the joint projects".
"Our cooperation with the University of Rostock is based on a long tradition. It is exciting for us again and again, because every project has its own challenges and at the same time offers so many opportunities", says Ingo Mirsch, division manager for energy and water management at SIV.AG. "The first project that has now been launched will enable us to evaluate customer data in context of compliance with the DSGVO and to develop automated processes for utilities that will enable them to better understand their customers and to process processes more effectively and faster. On the other hand, the cooperation will naturally also open up long-term prospects for our product development. However, customers of SIV.AG can also become active in pilot projects themselves and thus profit individually", Mirsch, who is in charge of the project at SIV.AG, continues to explain.
