Bastian Ernst defends his Master Thesis

Bastian Ernst, master's student in business information systems at the University of Rostock, defended his master's thesis on the topic of "Development of a software component for predictive production control based on process mining” on July 5, 2023. The thesis was developed in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Large Structures in Production Engineering IGP.

Supervisors and assessors were Paul Gerds from Fraunhofer IGP and Kurt Sandkuhl from the University of Rostock.

Abstract

The application of Process Mining techniques is increasing in various domains to support business processes. In this master thesis, Process Mining techniques will be applied to the domain of production to develop a component for predictive production control. This component will detect deviations near realtime during the process of production and will recommend algorithm-based actions. For this component a concept is established which is implemented into an IT system environment. Tests are used to investigate the accuracy of the prediction, and an outlook on the recommended actions is given.
