Emin Heydarzada defends his master thesis

Emin Heydarzada, student in the Master of Business Information Systems at the University of Rostock, has successfully defended his master thesis on the topic "Implementation of a machine data acquisition in a Manufacturing Execution System for the purpose of optimization" on 27.10.2022 at 11 am. The master thesis was written in close cooperation with the company Liebherr from Rostock.

Supervisors and reviewers of the thesis were Sebastian Engel (Liebherr), Marcus Triller (University of Rostock) and Prof. Kurt Sandkuhl (also University of Rostock).

Abstract:

In recent years, Industry 4.0 has left more and more traces in the economy. Many companies are creating new ways to adapt to and remain a part of the changing market. In order to optimize all processes, companies need an increasing variety of data. To obtain this information, companies try to integrate and optimize data collection in all areas. Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) should find possible potential at the operational management level in order to increase the added value. One possibility for this is machine data acquisition. With the help of this, the costs and productivity of production systems can be analyzed, evaluated and improved. The aim of this work was to automate the transfer of all data from the machines to the existing Manufacturing Execution System and to integrate a corresponding interface between the machines and the MES. Thanks to this automation, various departments of the company, e.g. production and controlling, have data available to optimize their work processes. This is shown and tested in a company using a case study. After that, an economic feasibility analysis of the possible solutions is carried out. At the end, a test phase, referring to all levels that have to be passed through when connecting the machine and target system, will be carried out, e.g. data transmission, data storage, data visualization.
