On Monday, April 13, the Department of Business Informatics took a group of students on a field trip to BRÜGGEN Fahrzeugwerk & Service GmbH in Lübtheen. BRÜGGEN is part of the KRONE Group, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of semi-trailers, trailers, and swap bodies for transport logistics. At its Lübtheen site, KRONE operates one of the largest and most modern plants for refrigerated vehicles in Europe. With nearly 1,000 employees, BRÜGGEN produces up to 10,000 so-called Cool-Liners there each year.

The excursion was organized in connection with a project to be carried out as part of the Projektstudium module in the summer semester of 2026. The student project team is tasked with developing a concept for an alarm management system for an industrial production facility. This is to be prototypically implemented using a specific system at the plant. The overarching goal is to establish a comprehensible, structured, and control-room-compatible alarm management system based on existing alarm and status data.

On-site, following a brief company presentation, we were given a tour of the plant to view the entire production process. Subsequently, questions regarding the student project were clarified, and the next steps as well as the project organization were defined. Finally, discussions were held with representatives from various plant departments regarding current projects and further opportunities for collaboration.
