The University of Rostock and in particular the staff of the Chair of Information Systems mourn the loss of Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Hans Röck (†) born on 21 March 1945 in Rehau, who passed away on 17 November 2023 in Berlin at the age of 78. With his passing, the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering has lost a highly esteemed professor who established business informatics at the Institute of Computer Science, inspired many generations of students and researchers and had a lasting influence on the development of the faculty.
Prof Röck came to Rostock via TU Berlin, where he completed his doctorate and habilitation in the field of operations research, and Bielefeld University, where he taught first at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences and then at the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering until his retirement. Until 2010, he taught courses such as Fundamentals of Information Systems, Technical Infrastructure and Traffic Optimisation. In his research, he focussed on the theory and practice of NP-complete problems from operations research.
The University of Rostock, the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, the Institute of Computer Science and the staff of the Chair of Information Systems will honour Prof. Röck's memory. Our deepest and sincere condolences go to his family and all relatives.
