Dana Hohmann defends her Master’s thesis

Dana Hohmann, a Master's student in business information systems at the University of Rostock, defended her Master's thesis on "Migration Strategies to Multicloud-Environments for Manufacturing Enterprises" on July 24, 2023. The thesis was developed in cooperation with Trebing & Himstedt Gmbh, Schwerin (T&H).

Supervisors and assessors were Manja Trebing from T&H and Kurt Sandkuhl from the University of Rostock.

Abstract:

The thesis faces the topic of migration to the cloud for production industry. In the first part of the thesis, a literature analysis was carried out to collect the most important factors that have an influence on migration. The factors identified are: Costs, business environment, organisational readiness, system architecture, IT security, availability and performance, and compatibility. A selection of these factors was then transferred to the area of production companies within an interview study. The focus of the interviews was on the perspective of investment protection. As a result, the factors availability and performance as well as compatibility were rated more important for the migration of MES systems for production companies than the factors system architecture and IT security. The reasons for this are the compatibility with various production resources over long periods of time and the requirements for strict adherence to schedules. Generally, however, all of the identified factors should be considered when planning and implementing the migration, as they all have an influence on the success of the migration.
