Analytic Self-Reflection Support

The goal of our research is to create systems that generate novel insights for productivity and well-being. Such systems are relevant for individuals who enjoy high autonomy and flexibility but are exposed to challenging work-demands, constant time pressure and a blurring borderline between professional and private life. For them, staying productive and healthy requires increased levels of self-management, e.g., to take deliberate decisions where to allocate personal resources or how to achieve a balance between productivity and well-being. This management process, however, is in turn challenging and requires effort and time.

The key idea is hence to empower individuals with advanced tools that support them in tracking behavioural, mental and physiological variables. An example for this is tracking subjective vitality with a single-item scale that resembles a battery or tracking heart rate variability with wearable devices. The power of IT-support lies both in (semi-)automated measurements as well as advanced analytics. In contrast to existing tracking tools that predominantly focus on isolated aspects such as time tracking, fitness, mental health or nutrition, we aim to integrate and analyse variables from different contexts to reveal complex, individual patterns.

Research Topics
